Yesterday’s post was an emotional one, and I would be lying if I said it wasn’t fueled by a little bit of wine. A huge part of what drove my decision to shift my career into the wine business is how many layers of complexity can be found in a single glass that continue to peel back until the very last sip. Wine has the power to make you feel nostalgic, emotional and alive. Every bottle is filled with its own history and story to tell, stories that go deeper than the grape. Wine is affected by climate and region, but more than that it is the product of diligent service and dedication to harvesting the perfect vintage, often at the hands of migrant farm workers who work tirelessly in the vineyards for countless hours, days, months and years. I appreciate and lift my glass to those hard-working individuals.
Last night I enjoyed a Primitivo from Imagery Winery in Sonoma County, Ca. Deep and hearty yet not too dry on the finish, it is a truly delicious Zinfandel. This wine inspired me to pull out my acoustic guitar (which I’m very much a novice at) and pull up the lyrics on YouTube to a few songs that I’ve loved for years so I could practice my Spanish and let out some of that emotion I was feeling in a more creative way.
A good wine can inspire you that way, I suppose.
Here’s two of the songs I’ve loved for over 20 years. Pour yourself a glass and enjoy.
